This terrified young bull was dragged into a ring in front of a jeering crowd of 1500. He was then violently pinned to the ground, while men strap wooden stakes doused in flammable chemicals to his horns, and set him on fire. Then local men show their 'bravery' by tormenting the terrified animal. Fiercely hot sparks and embers drip from the burning torches onto the bewildered animal. The distressed bull is then released, thrashing around the ring in agony to the cheers of the crowds. Members of the public are seen jumping into the ring and taunting the bull adding to his terror and confusion. Gasping for air, the bull finally reaches a state of exhaustion after nearly 45 minutes of torment and is soon dragged out the ring by villagers to be butchered. The men are awarded pieces of meat from the animal for their 'bravery'.

This is the 'joy of the Bull' - or Toro Jubilo festival - is one of the 'cultural' highlights of the entertainment calendar for residents in the Medieval village of Medinaceli, in the province of Soria, north east of Madrid.

Thank you everyone, it is good to know some of us can unite against this torture but how can we do more? I don't think our petitions will have any effect, I desperately want to stop this cruelty that bulls face is so so sad...

About petitions and that they have no effect... One thing is 100% sure; if no one participates in them, they will have NO effect. That way, they are like lotteries; if you do not play, you are 100% sure not to win. If you play however, there's a slight chance...

Otherwise you can always donate to organisations fighting for animal rights. Chose your favorite, and stick with them.

Ask your local/national politicians what they do for improving animal rights.

Good viewpoint Kasper, thank you and I agree with all you say about them I continue to sign all that come my way and forward to my contacts in the hope they are being counted/read:) Fibi

This is deplorable. I cannot believe that this kind of thing is still allowed to go in 2013. It's a disgrace.

..........sad :(

this is incredibly cruel. my heart screams out for this poor tortured animal. i will sign everything.

The men were rewarded for there Bravery, I have heard it all now, bloody cold callous Spaniards the Spanish are such a cruel breed, god what HELL that animal went through, lets see the big brave Spaniards going through the same hell, as I for one could drape burning substances on all there heads and watch them burn in agony and I would not feel a thing. may god help those poor animals, someone has to help them please, where are our animal organisations when we need them.

I saw the video for this a few weeks ago and almost cried.

This is fucked up, it's not a sport it cruelty. Also Jacqueline saying that the Spanish are a cruel breed of people is racist, there are vegans and vegetarians of all cultures.
