Joan Jett has been honored by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) for her animal rights campaigning for vegetarianism.
The "I Love Rock n' Roll" singer posed in a print ad, featuring the copy "I Am Joan Jett and I Am a Vegetarian." A blurb fixed in the ad further explains her position: "A meatless diet saves animals from suffering, combats environmental destruction and is better for my health."
The ad was unveiled over the weekend at a vegan restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where Jett was honored with the Nanci Alexander Activist Award, named after the founder of the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida.
"Joan takes every opportunity to talk about the importance of being kind to animals . . . People listen when this star talks. She's had a positive influence on countless fans," said a rep from PETA.

Permalink Reply by Fruitfly on November 8, 2012 at 9:31pm I think I vaguely heard that Joan was vegetarian some years ago (maybe). I am not too surprised that she is vegan. There are quite a few in the rock industry who are at least vegetarian but don't publicize it much.
I really liked Joan Jett back in the 80's. I have some stuff of hers in an earlier band called The Runaway's which also featured metal goddess, Lita Ford and one of the gals that later became Heart.
Okay how about this...(sang to the tune of I Love Rock n Roll)
I love vegan cheese,
so put another slice in the sandwich baby!
I love vegan cheese,
so come on have a seat and eat with me!
