there are a few threads on this forum that have lists of foods that are safe. Peta seems to provide good lists on their site.
while some foods are secretive about their ingredients, there are many which are not.
one secret for anyone who eats indian burfi, like with the silver stuff on top, that silver is created by banging silver in a sheep's intestine so it should definitely be avoided by any veg person who wants to avoid supporting those actions.
