I have a friend that calls indiana midwest hell. hes got it tattooed on him and everything....just in case you where wondering if anyone is roaming around out there with the words midwest hell stamped on themselfs :)

My struggle has been finding vegan recipes. I have down loaded a app that has a lot but does anyone know of a good cook book?

Oh thank you again!! Being new to the Vegan world there is so much to learn and sometimes it is hard especially when most of my family still eats meat. I am at piece with my decision and am looking forward to continuing my new life style. I know this is the right way to live!! I am going to check out The Vegan Zombie right now. ;)

Hey everyone, I thought I would write a quick intro. I am from Decatur, IL and I'm sort of new to the veg*n lifestyle. I tried it years ago - the first time I ended up stopping because of family pressures (my dad mostly, he was a meat and 'taters kind of guy, and because I loved my family and didn't want the stress, I gave in), the second time was because my food kept disappearing from my cabinet (my husband, whom I am separated from, decided he wanted to 'try it to see if it was good', even though he didn't really want to do the veg*n thing), now that I don't have to worry about that I've decided to give it another try. I liked the way it made me feel, and already I am feeling a little more energetic and not as "heavy" feeling as I would when eating meat. My metabolism loves it, and so does my body in general.
I found recently that the local Kroger has a spectacular special-foods section, along with reasonably priced organic veggies. I was so surprised to find tahini, nutritional yeast, chia seeds, and quinoa there. Comparatively speaking, it was maybe only a little more expensive than if I bought the usual 3+ pounds of ground beef, a big bag of chicken breasts, and fish, so that's something I'm glad for. The only thing I noticed was that the organic cucumbers were a little more pricey (but maybe that's because they aren't in season?). I do still have some meat in the fridge which I plan on eating sparingly until it's gone, so I'm still in the transition phase, I don't see why I should throw it out (well, I DO, but I'm not a wasteful person, and I do plan on not buying any more.)
So definitely for the health-reasons I thought this was the way to go. Also I am an animal lover, and it's definitely an attraction point for me. (though if meat-eating friends and family ask, I'm going to just say it's for health reasons lol) Not only is eating meat cruel, it's also highly unsanitary. I do eventually want to make the full transition to vegan, but one step at a time. I already feel like I'm doing the right thing for myself, my 11 year old son and the planet. It's not that hard for me to give up meat, though, because I rarely ate meat anyway. I've always been a salad-freak! The only thing I don't really care for is beets, and I tried plantains once and found them to be dry and bitter (maybe they weren't all the way ripe? I'm not sure how they should taste LOL), but I'll give any fruit or veggie a go at least once.
I know I have a little ways to go, but I'm making progress. :)

Also, about the cook books, there are TONS of blogs I've found around the 'net, and one of my favorite cookbooks is "Student's Vegetarian cookbook" - there's lots of great recipes in there, and since it's written with students in mind, most of the items in the recipes are not too expensive and easily found. They're also written for one or two servings, so if you need more of a recipe you have to double them (or triple) but if you are just cooking for you then it's really awesome :) (and it's easy to double them) Just my two cents ;)
