Help from the diet conscious

I am jumping into the diet and exercise pool with both feet.  I was told by a fitness advisor that I need to be on a 1700 calorie/day diet for the first few weeks.  I can figure out what I need to eat to maintain that diet, but does anyone have any ideas on what I can snack on that won't add to my caloric intake?  

I'm pretty much admitting to you that I like to snack.  I just want it to stay healthy.

Non US members

I just want to say thanks to those of you who live outside of the US for being on this group.  Not only do I get a vegetarian's perspective from around the world, I also realize how ignorant I am for having English be my only language.

If anyone wants to throw some ethnic recipes my way, feel free.  I love spicy foods, and clean, refreshing foods.  I'm having so much trouble finding something I want to make for dinner.

Am I the only one?

I find myself perusing the internet for recipes.  I get tired of pasta, veggie burgers, soup, etc, for dinner every night.  Many of the recipes that I find involve mushrooms, eggplant, or beets.  If I had to name three foods that I do not like, those would be them.

Am I the only one who finds it hard to find it hard to find things for dinner?

Any ideas?
