I am not really someone to whinge but how can people truly complain about animal abuse,  and claim love their pets and in general love animals if they actively take part in their consumption? I realise many people are uneducated about the disgusting ways in which meat is harvested and produced. Its truly sickening to say the least. Its a hard concept to grasp but things aren't as pretty as they seem. Cows don't eat grass anymore and chickens don't roam around paddocks looking for seeds and bugs. Things have changed but the price of meat has not. To maintain this relatively cheap price of dead animal flesh operations have become unethical to satisfy hunger and taste demands. How can one not be sickened by the flesh of up to 4 different animals on their plates this Christmas? Christmas is a time of giving, does it not seem ironic that by giving to our fellow human beings we are taking the innocent lives of helpless animals to simply satisfy nothing more than our taste buds.

Some say vegetarians and vegans are extremists and are unhealthy people. But really, what is more extreme, eating a fine selection of organic vegetables, whole grains, seeds and legumes or murder? Its an awkward topic of conversation to be honest. People recognise their choice to eat meat as a massive impact on their health, environment and animal welfare and because of this become defensive and emotional. I believe this is the reason for many of the arguments that arise because of a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle.

Christmas is a time for giving, but what is more valuable than the gift of life?

PS. If every one of us inspired ONE person to go meatless imagine the difference we could make in ten years time. I am going to collect inspirational vegetarian/vegan stories to share with everyone. If you think your story will inspire others, please share with me by sending it to info@veglov.com. I will post your stories on www.veglov.com blog. I believe everyone has his/her own story, I think it must be great when we can share our stories and inspire others. Let’s make the world a better place. ~ Xiao Kang.
