Connect with vegetarian and vegan friends from all over the world.
Just a mini post for the day, but I hope you guys can somehow read and solve my dilemma.
I went eating with a friend today. She ordered chicken rice while I had rice with curry puff and vegetables. We talked about college work, micro teaching and stuffs until she peered into my plate.
"So, you don't eat meat, don't you?"
"Ooo... so you eat only salad. Do you eat anything else?"
I was like, oh yea so us veggies are starvatarians is it? Nevertheless, I consoled myself that probably she is interested in understanding vegetarianism (hopefully, that is the case) I explained to her that we do not thrive just on salads. We eat a variety of food such as tofu and nuts too. Unfortunately I forgot to ask her that if she saw salad on my plate.
"Do you eat supplements?"
I admit, I consume supplements since I am quite new as a veggie and I cannot get nutritious veggies for dinner in college.
Somehow, I did not explain long because I need to rush for my assignments.
Here are some of my questions that I wish to ask her, but too afraid to lest it will offend her:
1. Is salad a balanced food to be eaten DAILY?
2. Humans need to enjoy food too. God blessed us with a variety of food, such as tree nuts, fruits, vegetables and grains. Animals are our friends, isn't it? They have feelings just like us!
3. How can one say that he/she loves animals when one eats animals by himself/herself?
4. Have you ever heard of veggies that need meat for flavouring?
How am I to explain my dietary choices to them diplomatically? Sure, it is good if I can guide them to become a vegetarian, at least, to save the animals. However, the "vegetarians eat only salad" stereotype is still deeply rooted in their heads. Le sigh.
