Tesco has become the latest UK supermarket to unveil a range of plant-based dishes, which is set to be one of the big food trends for 2018. The range aims to cater to the growing number of vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians in the UK.
The chain said the ‘Wicked Kitchen’ range of plant-based meals (its first-ever) has been created in partnership with pioneering chef, Derek Sarno. Prepared exclusively for Tesco, the range features 11 ready meals and nine food-to-go options, and is now available at 600 stores across the UK.
The range includes the Carrot Pastrami-Spiced Wrap, the Sweet Potato Pakora Wrap, and the Smashin’ Pumpkin Falafel Sandwich (all £3). It also includes two salads – Rainbow Curry Bowl, and Moroccan-Inspired Bowl (both £3.50). The range also offers three ready meals – Wicked Teriyaki Noodles, Nana’s Mushroom Bolognese, and a Naked Burrito (all £4). And finally, it includes two pizzas – Caponata Sourdough, and BBQ Mushroom Sourdough (both £4).
Sarno noted: “For too long, vegans have been overlooked, with many offerings that are available seemingly created to appease rather than truly please. Wicked Kitchen plans to change all that and I’m proud to work with Tesco and offer all its customers delicious meals to get them on board with this growing foodie revolution.
