The Argument "But We're Omnivores, We're Supposed To Eat Meat"

I'm not sure if everybody has heard this argument, but a reason that people choose to not be vegetarians/vegans is because they say that our bodies are meant to digest meat. Now I'm a biology major and agree with this concept. That being said, I don't agree with how animals are treated and slaughtered which is my main argument against this. What does everyone else think?

I am not so sure it is that rigid.   We became vegans 43 years ago and we are always full of energy and healthy.  We have not been ill even with colds or flu.

As a child on a standard meat and potato diet I was always ill.

That is the argument I hear the most. *Rolls eyes* "B-but we have canines! That must mean we eat meat! We are ferocious carnivores!" Yeah okay, except the problem with that is our teeth are NOTHING like a carnivore's teeth. Most herbivores have canines. Canines aren't even features of ominvores. We are most closely associated with herbivores, down to the way our bodies digest. Deer and pandas have canines, and they certainly were never meant to eat meat. We don't have claws, we aren't fast- no way we could chase down an animal and devour it. In fact, the way we chew food is that of an herbivore, as we grind and chew, instead of tear and swallow. Our intestines are the length of a herbivore's in relation to our body height- also, any natural carnivore NEVER gets clogged arteries from eating meat. If we were meant to eat meat, why does it cause so many health problems?

But even if you did make that argument, there is still the fact that you have the power to choose to eat vegan. You could save human and animal lives, by simply cutting out meat. You don't need it to live, and it's causing harm to the environment and to fellow, sentient beings.

Someone shared this speech on here a while back, and he makes excellent points:
