Im a fairly new vegetarian and am very passionate about animals and equality. Problem is my family just have no idea. They say things like "you need meat to be healthy" "it's the way of life" "it tastes good so I don't care"
These incredibly stupid comments just make me so angry. I wish they would be a little more supportive.
Is anyone else the only vegeterian in a family of uneducated meat-eaters? I try to educate them but they're so defensive and think I'm getting up on my high horse.

Yes I was the only vegetarian from a very young age, though I was fortunate my family were ok with it. Though I think they never fully understood my choice

I've been vegan for 2 years, and before that, I was a vegetarian for 3 years. I feel like my parents, who are the typical animal abusers, does not ever listen to me. We've had soooooo many discussions and talks, but no matter how many panic-attacks I've had where they've had to comfort me( when they have _themselves_! been the reason for them ever happening), no matter how many invalid arguments and realisations that they cannot argue to their favour, they still choose to keep me being sad and miserable. I have told them that I feel like they care more about abusing animals than having me happy. I really don't know what I'm supposed to do, and I would also like to hear how others manage to live with meat-eaters, or how to make them understand me and understand what they are doing.

I'm the only vegetarian in a family of meat eaters/hunters. None of them accepted, in fact when I was a vegetarian my mom actually said "well, I guess it's not a phase". I accepted that they don't want to be educated, so I try to educate them anymore. For me, the best thing to do was to accept that they make their choices and I make mine. I started letting there comments go and they stopped. They've finally accepted that they're not gonna change my mind. Although it is difficult to go to just sit there when comments are made.
