yesterday i went to a cafe with my brother and mum and we went in for hot chocolate and tea. i was feeling hungry so i decided to  get soup i asked if the lental soup was vegeterian because even though its lental they can sometimes use animal fats in it and they were like ummmmmmm im not sure and the woman had to ask the chef and then she came back and said there was no meat in it but i asked if there was animal fat in it and she just looked puzzled then when i decided that i didnt want any because i wasnt getting a straight answer from them  i just got  a cup of tea because my mum and brother were wanting to sit in and i thought i better just get something.  they were all staring over then laughing and i knew they were laughing at me :(  does any one else experience this

I'm sorry that happened to you. It's frustrating eating out because really, most people have the wrong idea about what a vegan or a vegetarian eats. Doesn't help with people who eat meat calling themselves vegetarian or people who claim to be vegan but will eat things like gelatin, etc. You shouldn't have had to endure that behavior afterwards, either. Very rude. I guess I would just advise - if you can- investigating places beforehand. That's really hard with family since they might pick the place though o.O

yeah i know i thought i was safe cos they usually want to eat at mcdonalds or something like that. and i get what your saying about people who eat meat and call themselves veggie  i knew someone  who eat fish and birds but kept on insisting she was vegeterian and im veggie but she kept on insisting i was vegan lol  i dont really eat eggs and i dont really drink milk but i still like my cereal sometimes and i try buy from a company that says its humane but i guess i should aim to be a vegan  i dont like gelitin or anything like that so i think im almost there :)

Haha it's always the ones who eat meat who seem to have the definitions confused. Oh well. At least they're trying I guess! I wish you luck if you do decide to switch to veganism :)! Usually people have the hard time with dairy, but it seems like for you this would be a breeze.

No problem :3 I think by the way, they have apps for eating out and being veggie.
