1. Cow's milk is for cows.
The biochemical make-up of cow's milk is perfectly suited
to turn a 65-pound newborn calf into a 400-pound cow in one year. It contains, for example, three times more protein and seven times more mineral content while human milk has 10 times as much essential fatty acids, three times as much selenium, and half the calcium. Some may like cow's milk but drinking it is both unnecessary and potentially harmful.
2. Milk is actually a poor source for dietary calcium.
Humans, like cows, get all the calcium they need from a plant-based diet.
3. Contrary to popular belief, milk may increase the likelihood of osteoporosis.
It is still widely accepted that the calcium in dairy products will strengthen our bones and help prevent osteoporosis, but studies show that foods originating from animal sources (like milk) make the blood acidic. When this occurs, the blood leeches calcium from the bones to increase alkalinity. While this works wonders for the pH balance of your blood, it sets your calcium-depleted bones up for osteoporosis. As explained by John Robbins, "The only research that even begins to suggest that the consumption of dairy products might be helpful [in preventing osteoporosis] has been paid for by the National Dairy Council itself."
4. Milk makes you fat.
In 2005, the Harvard School of Public Health had this to say on the consumption of dairy products: "Three glasses of low-fat milk add more than 300 calories a day. This is a real issue for the millions of Americans who are trying to control their weight. What's more, millions of Americans are lactose intolerant, and even small amounts of milk or dairy products give them stomach aches, gas, or other problems."
so what kind of milk to vegans drink?
ReplyDeleteAlmond, soy or rice milk.
ReplyDeleteVegans have many options when it comes to milk/dairy products.
ReplyDeleteThe most popular choices are soy milk, or almond milk. These can be found in any grocery store or health food store.
im a mikaholic cant live without it :D
ReplyDeleteCoconut milk. Holy wow waaaay better than salty pus filled cow milk. Coconut milk ice cream is awesome too
ReplyDeleteWe can eat animal meats but can't drink the animals milk?
ReplyDeletewhat about the cancer related problems and the diabetes related problems that milk can cause? They should be mentioned....
ReplyDeleteDrink Fat-Free Organic Milk. Stay away from fatty food. Be physically active. Use good coping strategies to deal with stress. Those are key factors to preventing diseases. Unless you have a genetic predisposition.
ReplyDeleteLove vanilla soy milk!
ReplyDeleteNever liked milk anyway. Like soy milk in coffee and tried almond and coconut but prefer soy. Love coconut in cooking and ice cream.
ReplyDeleteWe drink water. Don't feel the need to have "milk" - we never needed it to begin with so no need to "replace" it - however we do buy almond milk for cereal and some recipes and get our calcium from plants. I am vegan and my son is vegetarian and lactose intolerant - I hate that they push milk on him at school so much he comes home running to the bathroom because he thinks he has to drink it:-( Forks over Knives and Food Inc - super good documentaries - highly recommend.

ReplyDeleteSeriously though, its like we cant eat or drink ANYTHING anymore. Because everything causes cancer and other health problems. Everything in moderation I say!!
ReplyDeleteI only drink milk in tea because I find soy and almond dont taste so good withvp black tea..any suggestions as I would love to give this habit away? Feel bad about drinking baby calf milk
ReplyDeleteRice milk tastes wonderful in tea...it has more of a neutral taste over other milks like soy or almond milk...

ReplyDeleteJust because the dairy industry wants us to support them, doesn't mean that humans should be suckling the tete of other animals. Cow's milk is meant for baby cows, not adult humans. We were raised on milk, so it seems right. Just think about what you consume and why. Dont let the media decide what you put in your body.
ReplyDeleteThe hormones and antibiotic they give cows to expand their milk bladders till they can hardly walk transfere into the milk. Since we stopped drinking milk headaches have gone, pmt gone and lost half a stone! After 6 months of goin milk free i feel much happier and healthier and cant stand the stuff now
ReplyDeletewhat's the scientific proof of this? milk being a "likely" cause of osteoporosis after all? this is very misleading. show some proof before stating something preposterous.
ReplyDeletei haven't heard anything about a person drinking milk and having osteoporosis in the end. you can't even cite a case study. this writing is very lousy and demeaning.
you say the study was paid. Where did the idea of research not being paid come from? to do a professional research, of course they have to budget for all laboratory and people they need. i don't believe this comes for free.
There's no health reasons to avoid milk except maybe lactose intolerance. Milk doesn't cause health problems. Nice false article though.
ReplyDeleteAlso to the moron's above. Milk doesn't have pus in it. It also doesn't cause diabeties nor cancer. Damn you vegans are the most uneducated fuckers on earth.
ReplyDeleteYou and your kind are the uneducated ones! Maybe you should do your research moron!
DeleteForks over knives and Food Inc are not true documentaries. They are all propaganda and lies. They have been debunked many times. I know no one that has ever gotten any diseases or illnesses from meat or dairy and everyone I know eats meat and consumes dairy.
ReplyDeleteOsteoprosis isn't caused from drinking milk. Milk gives you calcium, not the opposite.More lies in this article!
ReplyDeleteIts not the vegans who are the idiots, maybe some of you should actually do some research! Read the China Study by T. Colin Campbell. Look up The Gerson Therapy, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Dean Ornish, John A. McDougall, Raymond Francis M. Sc. , Physicians Committe for Responsible Medicine. Watch A Delicate Balance and The Beautiful Truth. And I'm sorry but the milk you buy at the grocery store does have blood and puss in it! Do some research!
ReplyDeleteALL animal products are harmful for the human body!
