If all conventional produce in grocery stores came with a pesticide ingredient label, I am confident that very few people would purchase it. This list is longer than some of the ingredient lists on packaged food items!
Conventional strawberries contain over 54 pesticide residues (found by the USDA):
- 9 are known or probably carcinogens
- 24 are suspected hormone disruptors
- 11 are neurotoxins
- 12 are developmental or reproductive toxins
- 19 are honeybee toxins
